Booker renews his contract! 316 million in 5 years! The highest annual salary in NBA history
At 9 a.m. on July 10, according to NBA reporter Shams, Booker renewed his contract with the Suns in two years and $145 million in advance. Booker's original contract has 3 years and $171 million left. Suns voluntarily proposes to renew the contract now, extending Booker's contract to $316 million for five years. Now it seems that Booker may be able to play in the Suns until the end of his career. In the 2029-30 season, Booker's annual salary was $75.47 million, becoming the highest annual salary in the NBA history. The previous record was Alexander's $75.41 million. The Suns are determined to build a team around Booker, sending Durant away this offseason, and then buying out Bill. But the question is, can Booker, 29, still lead the Suns to the championship?
The Suns' new general manager Brian Gregory revealed that Jaylen Green and Booker will partner in the backcourt next season. But neither of them is the main guard, and the Suns may be in trouble last season again. The Suns are expected to start next season: Booker, Green, Dillon Brooks, Ryan Dunn, Mark Williams.
So far, Booker has played for 10 seasons with the Suns, tied for fourth in the league with Jokic, second only to Curry's 16 seasons, Antetokounmpo's 12 seasons, and Dwight Powell's 11 seasons. To some extent, Booker's contract contains the Sun's reward, just like Lillard was at the Trail Blazers. In the 2024-25 season, the Suns won 36 and lost 46, ranking 11th in the Western Conference and did not make the playoffs. Booker averaged 25.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 7.1 assists, 0.9 steals and 2.9 turnovers, with three shooting percentages: 46.1%, 33.2%, and 89.4%. He ranked 9th in the league in scoring per game, 10th in the league in assists per game, and averaging positive and negative values of -2.3, ranking only 197th in the league.
Book never played in the playoffs before Paul joined. After Paul left the team, Booker scored once in the playoffs and was swept 0-4, and failed to even make the playoffs. This summer, the Suns added two big centers, Mawei and Maruac. What is Booker's ability to lead the team? Next season is the best answer.
Do you think the Suns can return to the playoffs next season?
