Heat reportedly could sign Anthony Davis in potential trade with Mavericks

Basketball

According to US sports media F/W analyst Vishwesha Kumar, with Harrison officially resigning as general manager of the Mavericks, the team seems to be moving towards a comprehensive reconstruction, which means Davis may be sent away soon. One potential destination is the Heat, who could make a compelling offer centered around young talent and draft capital, according to SB Nation's Ricky O'Donnell.

The Heat received: Davis

The Mavericks received: Herro, Weir, Fontechio, 2029 Heat first-round pick

This deal provides both parties with what they need. An opportunity for the Mavericks to reset their roster around top pick Flagg while getting back much-needed assets. A chance for the Heat to finally bring in a true superstar big man to partner with Adebayo to form an explosive frontcourt.

At the same time, the Heat have both power and flexibility. The Heat are in the middle of the Eastern Conference, but Riley and Spoelstra know the window is closing, and Davis offers a path back to contention despite concerns about durability. If healthy, the core of Adebayo and Davis would instantly give Miami one of the best defensive duos in NBA history, not to mention a potent combination of inside-out scoring and elite rebounding. The fit on defense will be seamless, with Davis and Adebayo able to switch at all five positions, which is what Spoelstra's scheme thrives on. Offensively, Davis will benefit from Miami's disciplined half-court play and spacing, potentially putting less stress on his body compared to his current heavy workload in Dallas.

The Mavericks are ranked 14th in the Western Conference, and Davis' departure is inevitable. The once-promising "win now" program built around him and Irving has collapsed. Irving remains out with a torn ACL, Thompson is coming off the worst shooting stretch of his career, and Davis has already missed several games with another injury. The 25-year-old Herro will immediately become the team's leading outside scorer, providing three-point shooting and secondary playmaking ability next to Flagg. Ware brings advantages as a rim-protecting big man. Fontecchio is a versatile forward with a solid shooting touch who adds depth and experience. A 2029 first-round pick could complement future assets.

With Harrison's departure and new leadership expected to take over soon, there is a growing belief around the league that Dallas will aggressively shop Davis. The Knicks have also been mentioned as a possible wild-card destination due to their asset glut and the appeal of pairing Davis with Brunson. But the Heat's bargaining chip may be more impressive to Dallasites, and if this deal materializes, it could reshape both franchises. The Mavericks are finally starting to rebuild, and the Heat can reignite their championship aspirations, betting that Davis still has enough time to dominate in crunch time.

But regardless of whether Dallas will push for a trade, the changes within the team have begun with Harrison's departure. The next step may be to seek trades or continue to adjust the team's coaching staff; previously, Flagg has publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the team. Regardless, it will be interesting to see what happens next.
