Suns Rumor: Bradley Bill must accept a substantial salary cut to buy out his contract

The Phoenix Suns are currently preparing for a summer that could change the fate of the team. It is widely expected that the Phoenix Suns will consider trading superstar Kevin Durant, but the harder deal is shooting guard Bradley Bill, who has one of only two non-trading clauses in the NBA.

Recently, NBA insider Jake Fischer analyzed on the Stein Line Substack website what might happen between the Bill and the Suns if they choose to buy out.

"Bill's contract has nearly $111 million left in the next two seasons," Fischer reported. "Due to the complexity of various salary caps, Phoenix can give a maximum of about $80 million in a buyout contract, which means that Bill must have a strong desire to start a new life to accept such a significant salary cut in exchange for an unrestricted free agent status."

Fischer also reported how Bill's situation affected the Suns' coach search, which recently ended up poaching Jordan Ott from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"Another example shows that Phoenix knows that leaving Bills will face a major challenge: several coaches who have participated in the Suns coach interview have been asked in recent weeks how the 31-year-old would use him if he was still on the roster at the start of training camp on September 30," he reported.

If Bill is still on the roster next season, it remains to be seen how Ultra will use Bill, and it seems that Bill is likely to stay on the roster at the moment.

As Fischer pointed out, Bill must accept a substantial salary cut to buy out his contract, and he also has the right to give up any potential deals the team has made for him (the team is not necessarily waiting in line for his contract at the moment). The candidate who is more likely to be traded is Durant, and even though his value may not be as high as when the Suns traded him two years ago, it is estimated that there are still many suitors in the offseason trading market this year.

Trade exchanged for a large number of core players may give the Suns some much-needed space to restructure the lineup, even if Bills are still part of the team.
