The Cavaliers want to trade Dean Wade, or provide space for Jerome Merrill
According to Cavaliers Chris Fedor, the Cavaliers are seeking to trade Dean Wade. Wade's contract amount next season is $6.62 million, the last year of his contract. Chris Fedor said: "As far as I know, the Cavaliers have started a discussion about Dean Wade. They want to see if they can use him and other chips to exchange for other assets, whether it is a different type of asset or a different type of player."
"So I think the Cavaliers are trying to clarify: what is the possible solution for us? If we get rid of Ocorro's contract salary, or get rid of Dean Wade's salary, can it be easier to provide Jerome or Merrill's contract with a contract?"
Wade played 59 games this season, averaging 5.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game, shooting 41.3%, 36.0% from three-pointers and 53.3% from free throws. The Cavaliers' salary for the 2025-26 season is expected to reach $219 million, surpassing the second rich line. Jerome and Merrill will be fully free agents this offseason.
