On May 24, according to Brett Siegel, a reporter from US media ClutchPoints, the Celtics may trade Porzingis in this offseason.

The Celtics have the highest-paid roster in the NBA next season. The new boss may not want to pay for the $500 million roster, especially if Tatum may miss the entire next season due to a torn Achilles tendon.

Brett Siegel wrote: "The source said that the Latvian big man is regarded as the most likely star to be traded in the offseason among Porzingis, Holiday and Derek White. Since he is in the contract year, the Celtics do not need to add additional assets to the deal to handle Porzingis' contract. Not to mention, there are several teams in the West who are interested in exploring the possibility of introducing the Celtics."

Porzingis averaged 19.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists for the Celtics in the regular season in 2024-25, while the 2025 playoff statistics were 7.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 0.7 assists. The All-Star player suffered from an unknown cause in the playoffs and developed symptoms of dyspnea. After winning the championship last season, the Celtics lost to the New York Knicks 1-4 in the second round of the playoffs this year.

29-year-old Porzingis has played for the Knicks, Mavericks, Wizards and Celtics in his career, averaging 19.6 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He earns $30.73 million next season, which is also the last year of his contract.
