Atletico Madrid official: Former Barcelona football director Alemani serves as the club s men s football general manager

Hupu reported on October 7 that Atletico Madrid officially announced that former Barcelona football general manager Alemanni has joined the club as the general manager of the men's football team.

Mateu Alemany has joined Atletico Madrid as the new Director of Men’s Professional Football. The executive from the Balearic Islands will become part of the team of general manager of football Carlos Busero and will be responsible for leading all matters related to the men's first team, Atlético Madrid's B team and the professional field of the youth academy.

Mateu Alemany holds a law degree and has had an extensive and distinguished career in Spanish football, having held various positions at a number of La Liga clubs.

His football career began with Real Mallorca in 1990, where he held various positions until September 2000 when he became the chairman of the "Red Army" and was in charge for five years. During his tenure as general manager, the Mallorcan side won the Spanish Super Cup (1998), reached the 1997-98 Copa del Rey final and the 1998-99 European Cup Winners' Cup final, in addition to achieving the club's best-ever La Liga ranking (third place in 1998-99) and qualifying for the Champions League for the first time. In 2003, already serving as president of Real Mallorca, he led the team to win the Copa del Rey, the club's most significant sporting achievement.

He later returned to the Balearic club in 2009 to serve as president for the second time.

In 2017, he served as the general manager of Valencia Football Club for a term of two and a half years. During his tenure, the Valencia club won the 2019 Copa del Rey.

In March 2021, he became the professional football director of Barcelona Football Club and will serve until early September 2023. During his time with the "Red and Blues", the team won a La Liga championship (22-23 season), a Copa del Rey (2021) and a Spanish Super Cup (2023).

This morning, Mateu Alemany officially took office and went to Atletico Madrid's training base with Carlos Busero to visit the first team. The two held a meeting with Diego Simeone and paid tribute to the players who are training in Madrid these days.
