June 13, According to former Dutch international Promez's lawyer CemPolat confirmed to the Dutch media that the player was arrested at his home in Dubai. Earlier this week, Promes, 33, said in an interview with Dutch TV that he was eager to return home but hoped that Dutch police would not arrest him.

Promez was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison for beating his cousin in 2023, and in 2024 he was sentenced to another six years in prison for participating in smuggling more than 1.35 tons of cocaine. When the Netherlands was sentenced, the player was playing for Spartak, Moscow, Russia. Because Russia and the Netherlands had no extradition treaty, Promez was spared from being arrested. However, while he was with the team to Dubai, he was detained by local police for a traffic accident and is currently not allowed to leave the country and wait for procedures to extradite the Netherlands. Currently, he is living in Dubai and playing for the local team.

Now, the above two cases have been tried together, and the specific trial time has not been determined. However, Promez has so far denied the allegations in the two cases. The player's lawyer said his client was eager to return to the Netherlands to explain the case clearly and then continue his career. His lawyer also said the players received invitations from multiple clubs but were unable to provide more details.
