Has been arrested! Dutch media: 33-year-old midfielder Promez extradited back to the Netherlands for drug trafficking and injury charges

June 20 Dutch media reported that 33-year-old Dutch midfielder Promes was extradited from the UAE to the Netherlands for drug trafficking and injury charges.

Promez has been convicted twice by the Amsterdam District Court and the two cases are currently being appealed. Upon arrival in the Netherlands, Promes will be arrested and temporarily detained for a previously issued arrest warrant.

Promes was sentenced to six years in prison by the Amsterdam District Court for mass drug smuggling. Previously, he was sentenced to one and a half years in prison for stabbing his cousin. In the drug smuggling case, the court issued an arrest warrant, which prompted the suspect to be arrested immediately as soon as he arrived in the Netherlands.

Promez did not attend during the trial of the case because he lived and worked abroad (played for Sparta, Moscow) and did not respond to a subpoena. In March 2024, he was arrested by local police when he was traveling to Dubai. Soon after, the Netherlands filed an extradition request to the UAE. Thanks to constructive cooperation between the UAE and the Netherlands, Promez has now successfully extradited. The two criminal cases will be heard together during the appeal stage, but the specific hearing date has not yet been determined.
