Lewandowski: I agreed to go to Manchester United for 12 years, but it s not a pity; I ve never seen a genius like Yamal
Hupu, August 12th, Barcelona striker Lewandowski accepted an exclusive interview with the BBC.
Many fans know the story of Lewandowski's transfer to Blackburn when he was soaked by a volcanic ash cloud - but the striker also hopes to join another England club.
"I decided to join Manchester United and agreed. I want to join Manchester United and I also went to meet Ferguson."
The hope of transferring to the Red Devils began in 2012, when Lewandowski scored a lot of goals at Dortmund - and a volcanic eruption in Iceland two years ago ruined his plan to transfer to Blackburn. However, the German club simply doesn't want to let go of their minds of "amulet" striker.
"They can't sell me because they know if I stayed and I could make more money, and I might be able to wait for another year or two. But I did promise Manchester United.
Maybe (not able to play in the Premier League) would be a pity. But when I look back at my experiences at Bayern Munich, Dortmund and now Barcelona, I have to say that I am very satisfied with my career.
I don't have that feeling of missing out on anything, because every move or decision... is because I long for it."
Now, he has become the leader of the young team in Barcelona, with top talent like Yamal, but the Polish international believes he can still contribute.
"When I realized I didn't need to chase young players and they just needed to catch up with me, it means that I can get good results next season and I will still show my best form.
I understand that I can't fight them, but I can help them, and they can help me. I learned a lot from them, but I will admit that I never thought things would go like this."
Yamar is widely regarded as a future superstar, and Lewandowski said that from the moment the winger was 15 years old, he saw his extraordinaryness.
"This is the first time in my life I saw something special about a player 50 minutes later, but I couldn't believe it at the time because I've never seen him have such a player at this age - I thought it was impossible to do this at the age of 15."
