The International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced not long ago that it would reject the appeal of Mexican teams Leon and Pachuca, and Leon will miss the first New World Club Cup held this summer.
As a replacement, FIFA will arrange for Mexican team Mexico America and the US team Los Angeles FC to play a playoff game, and decide the team to replace Leon in the Club World Cup. The winner will be in the same group as Chelsea, Flamenco and Tunisia Hope, with the date and location of the playoffs not finalized.
Los Angeles FC qualifies for the playoffs because they won the runner-up in the Central and North America championship, while Mexico America tops the score coefficient in the four-year qualification cycle.
