The man who carried Maradona is gone - Argentinian Roberto Cejas dies

Football

Argentinian Roberto Cejas dies. Before the 1986 World Cup finals in Mexico, Cejas made an impromptu decision to go to Mexico to watch the game, and found a way to evade security and police and sneak into the stadium (other accounts say that a friend got him a ticket).

After the game, many fans, including Sejas, jumped from the stands into the infield. Argentinian fans celebrated their victory with singing and dancing, and Cejas squeezed in and out of the crowd. Suddenly, Cejas found Maradona appearing in front of him holding the Hercules Cup, and said to him, "Come on, brother, you are tall, lift me up."

So Cejas carried Maradona on his shoulders, and several classic photos spread around the world. At the time, Sejas himself did not realize that he had done something extraordinary and ordinary. The man carrying the ball king on his shoulders is not a friend of the ball king, nor is he a staff member of the team, he is just an ordinary passerby.

After the game, Cejas returned to Santa Fe, Argentina, and continued his ordinary daily life, working in a metal processing factory and selling construction materials.

During the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Cejas and Maradona met again on a program. "We hugged each other warmly," Cejas recalled.

In the life of an ordinary person, a momentary action is deeply embedded in a moment of great symbolic significance. This is the charm of football and the charm of that era.
