A Western Conference scout: I don t think the Jazz is interested in Thomas. He doesn t fit the Jazz s team-building ideas.
July 28th, NBA reporter Grant Afseth wrote an article talking about the market trend of restricted free agent Cameron Thomas.
Apart from the Nets, the Jazz are the only team capable of giving Thomas a big contract, but some NBA people are skeptical of the Jazz's interest in Thomas.
"If you want, the Jazz can stir up some turmoil in the restricted free agent market, not just Thomas, but in my opinion, he is one of the players that the Jazz is not interested in. Their current team building ideas are defense, body shape and versatility." said a Western Conference scout. "Thomas is a pure scorer, and he is not suitable for the long-term plan that the Jazz promotes."
An Eastern Conference executive said that Grimes is better suited to the Jazz than Thomas.
"If the Jazz were using their cap space on a restricted free agent, it would be used on a player like Grimes, who could shoot three points, defend multiple positions, and dribble. He also demonstrated his scoring and organizational skills to the Sixers. He has shown that he can be a more comprehensive player in the right system. Putting bets on him and on Thomas are two different things."
