Exclusive to The Sun: Palmer applied for a registered trademark, but was complained by Palmer Winery, France

Basketball

Hupu August 21, According to an exclusive report by Stephen Moyes, the Sun's gossip reporter, Cole Palmer applied to register the trademark of his celebration posture "Cold Palmer", but was challenged by the French luxury winery Château Palmer.

In the case of "ClaretvsBlue", the £750/bottle winery opposed the Chelsea player's trademark registration because they wanted to maintain their image.

The footballer hopes to use the nickname for a range of goods, such as toiletries and clothing.

But his application also requires legal protection to allow him to sell wine.

The registration documents of the Palmer agency stated:

"Alcoholic beverages; alcoholic juice beverages; pre-mixed alcoholic beverages; wines; spirits; liqueurs; alcoholic energy beverages; low-alcoholic beverages; including wines that do not comply with the provisions of the Protection of Origin (PDO)."

This has alerted the top officials of the French brand, who have been opposed to the application.

Attorneys at the Government Intellectual Property Office will make a decision on the potential conflict upon receipt of statements from both parties. The wine company was founded in 1814 when Charles Palmer, an officer of the British Army, acquired the then-known Château de Gascq.

Palmer's own wine preferences are not yet known.
