Looney: There will definitely be a lot of trash talk against the Warriors, but it will all be friendly

Hupu November 03 News Recently, Pelicans player Kevin Looney accepted an interview with the media EssentiallySports.

In the interview, Looney talked about the topic that he will play against the Warriors this month.

However, I am quite interested in the fact that you and Draymond Green can trash talk each other, and you can also fight. What else do you hope for?

Looney: Yeah, that would definitely be cool. I expect a good match and there will definitely be a lot of trash talking. But everything will be done with good intentions and kindness. They are one of the most competitive players I've ever seen and I know they don't want to lose to me, so hopefully this game will be meaningful. I'm very excited. They remain my mentors. I still talk to them when I need help or want to talk. If I'm hurt and need someone to talk to or a doctor or something, I'm still in contact with them and rely on them a lot. So it's going to be a lot of fun to get back out there and be able to compete against them.

You mentioned that you often talk trash to Curry and Green during training. What’s your favorite trash-talking story with them?

Looney: I don’t know which time impressed me the most, but one time really remains fresh in my memory. It was my second year in the league and I was playing against Draymond Green. It was early in training camp, and I had just recovered from an injury and was still getting back into shape and trying to get back into the rhythm of the game. He decided to mark me and put pressure on me. I was organizing an offense and he scolded me for not being able to score. I just remember him yelling! I always remember this because I always tried to keep up with him. In the beginning, I had so much energy that I didn’t want to talk or do much. I haven’t really found my rhythm yet. But it stuck with me and made me realize that yes, I needed to get stronger. I have to make sure I can keep up with his pace and effort every time I step on the court.

Did you refute what he said?

Looney: Not that day. But sometimes, in training, I'm probably the loudest person on the team. If he and Steph were on the team, I would communicate with Steph, call out tactics, and say I defended well. One time, I defended Stephen very well. I kept talking to him. I pride myself on being able to switch defenders. I defended very well that time. I probably just shook him. Then he dribbled with his crotch, dribbled with his back, and then he hit a step-back jumper and scored right in front of me. I was like, it's over.

That's Stephen.

Looney: Yes, that's Stephen. You know he did that signature twist and then he hit the 3-pointer and the game-winner. It’s these things that always get us talking.
