Shams: Lively dies before he succeeds, and the third player in the Mavericks core 2-man team

Sources told ESPN's Shams Charania today that Dallas Mavericks center Derek Lively II had undergone surgery to remove the bone spurs from his right foot. He is expected to stay healthy during training camp in September.

Lively missed for more than two months due to a stress fracture in his right ankle, one of several injuries that led to a poor performance in the Dallas season. Lively suffered from injuries early in his NBA career; in his first two seasons, he played in only 91 regular season games. Lively, 21, is the third key member of the Mavericks to be injured and will be undergoing rehabilitation this summer, with the other two being Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis. Irving suffered an ACL tear late last season and is expected to miss at least most of next year's games. Davis had a retinal detachment repair surgery last season but was expected to attend training camps healthy.
