Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong, September 4 (Reporter Wang Zijiang) FIFA Referee Committee Chairman Corina recently said here that VAR (Video Assistant Referee System) has proven to be very successful since its inception, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.

This famous Italian referee made the above statement at the World Football Summit held here. He said: "Football seems to be inseparable from VAR, and this technology is now adopted in all important competitions in the world."

VAR has now become the standard configuration for major events. "We're seeing VAR being widely accepted and being able to use it skillfully both on the court and on the video assistant referees. We're very happy with that, but there are places where improvements need to be improved, and that's what we do every day, we work hard to improve and introduce new things." He said a key area that needs improvement is the timing of assistant referees raising the flag. Corina stressed that assistant referees need to raise the flag at the right time to keep the game flowing while allowing VAR to accurately review events on the field.

Corina also praised the innovations of the FIFA club's World Cup, including referees wearing cameras on their own, and the eight-second rule that reduces goalkeepers' waste time. He said the cameras worn on the go provide the audience with a special experience, "the results exceeded our expectations and we didn't expect it to be so effective".

Korina, 65, had enforced the 1999 Champions League final and the 2002 World Cup final between Brazil and Germany, which he called the latter his most memorable game. In 2005, he retired after 109 international games in law enforcement. Speaking of his career, he said he had no regrets about the penalty in all the games he had ever enforced.

He said: "I don't regret any punishment, because I always try my best. When you do your best, you have to accept the bad consequences of some things, which is normal for everyone. We are all human beings, and as long as we are human beings, you will make mistakes."
