Inkapier: Zaka sent me a message; I can play fullback but I am better at centerback

Piero Incapier hopes to leave his mark in North London, and he also revealed that he only used one conversation to confirm that N5 (Arsenal's location) is the place that can take his career to the next level.

The Ecuadorian defender joined us from Bundesliga team Leverkusen, with a loan period of one year, becoming the eighth signing in this busy summer transfer window.

Piero does not need extra persuasion from head coach Mikel Arteta and sports director Andrea Berta, because he has determined that Emirates Stadium is where he should go in the 2025-26 season, and he is also eager to make his name known as soon as possible.

In the first interview, Piero said: "It only takes one conversation and I am completely convinced of the decision I am making. I am ecstatic. I want to blend with my new teammates as soon as possible and play a good season."

Piero left his hometown to pursue his football dream at a young age. He left his hometown Esmeraldas to join the Independence team at the age of 14, and went to Argentina at the age of 18, and went to Germany a year later.

In the four years at Leverkusen, the 23-year-old won the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the German Super Cup, and performed very well.

When at Leverkusen, he was a teammate with former Arsenal player Granit Zaka. Piero revealed that he had talked to the Swiss international about Arsenal in the past.

He said: "We chat a lot, but we don't always talk about Arsenal. But I did ask him once about Arsenal. He praised the club and talked about his feelings when he was playing here. I really liked that conversation, although that was not the latest. But he did send me a message recently and he has always commented on the club very well."

His position

As a player who can be competed as a central defender and left back, Piero has played 46 times for the Ecuador national team and has had 2 experiences wearing the captain's armband. Before international match day, he also talked about what fans can see in him in the new season.

He said: "I think I can bring a lot of courage. I will do my job well. I want to show my ability over the years and give everything for this club. The position I do best is the central defender. Although I have played many sideline guards, I think the central defender is the most suitable position for me. As for my characteristics, I am fast and I like to drive forward, and I also want to be the leader on the court."
