June 21, According to the "Roman Sports", Italy regards the referee as a "public official" and may face up to 16 years in prison in the future if the referee beats him in the game.

On Thursday local time, the Italian Council of Ministers revised Article 583, paragraph 4 of the Criminal Code, deeming "referees and other personnel who ensure the norms of sports events" as public officials. This means that the act of beating the referee in the future will be attacking public officials and will face jail sentences.

Le Rome Sports said that those who beat the referee and cause minor injuries will be sentenced to 2 to 5 years in prison; those who cause serious injuries will be sentenced to 4 to 10 years in prison; those who cause very serious injuries will be sentenced to 8 to 16 years in prison.

President of the Italian Judgment Association Antonio Zampi said: "I am very happy and excited that this historic law has been approved. The protection of the referee has finally been written into the criminal law. I would like to thank the Minister of Sports Abodi, the Italian government, and all those who support this matter."
