May 21 The Athletic reported that Flamengo is negotiating with Arsenal about Jorginho's transfer, and the Brazilian club hopes that the 33-year-old midfielder can join in time to participate in this summer's Club Cup.

Jorginho's contract with Arsenal will expire at the end of June, when he will join Flamenco as a free agent. It is reported that the contract drafted by both parties will last until December 2028. The focus of the negotiations is whether Arsenal agrees to release it in advance to make it qualify for the Club World Cup. Although no final agreement has been reached, Arsenal said that if a suitable plan can be reached, Jorginho is willing to meet his willingness to participate.

Flamenco will play Tunisia Hope for the first time in Group D of the Club World Cup on June 17, and its opponents in the same group also include Chelsea and the winner between Los Angeles FC and Club America.

Jorginho has played for Naples and Chelsea in his career. He joined Arsenal for a transfer fee of 12 million pounds in January 2023, and initially signed for 18 months, and then renewed his short-term contract in May 2024. The midfielder has become a trusted and experienced member of Arteta, with a total of 79 appearances for the team.

Jorginho's departure on Arsenal's summer window plan is unclear, after The Athletic reported that the Gunners are expected to sign midfielder Zubimendi from Real Sociedad this summer. According to reports in April, the club hopes to renew the contract with Thomas and is currently negotiating a new contract.
