Since winning the 2023 Rome Masters, former world No. 1 Medvedev has lost in a series of major finals, including the US Open, Australian Open as well as tournaments in Beijing, Vienna, Indian Wells and Halle.

But in Almaty this time, he did not let the disappointment repeat. With victory after 2 hours and 29 minutes, Medvedev won the 21st ATP title of his career. In particular, 21 titles took place in 21 different locations.

"I want to thank my family, my beautiful wife and two daughters " Medvedev said emotionally during the cup award ceremony at Almaty Arena on October 19. "This is the first time I've attended a tournament with my wife and two children, so winning the title is great ".

In the final match of the ATP 250 tournament in Kazakhstan, Medvedev showed his ability to move, hit sustainably and get to the net effectively, coping well with Moutet's skillful handling to quickly end the points. He also made his mark in the decisive moment, especially in the last game of set 3. He took advantage of match-point after a tense score between the two sides.

"It feels great. There were times when I didn't play really well, but in important points, I played properly " Medvedev added. "The last game was truly amazing. This continues to be a funny story for me, 21 titles in 21 different cities ".

The victory also helped Medvedev maintain his fragile hope of winning tickets to the ATP Finals in Turin. The player who won the best-of-eight tournament of the year has climbed three places, to 12th place on the ATP Race to Turin points table. He is currently 875 points behind Lorenzo Musetti's 8th place.

This is also Medvedev's first title under the guidance of two new coaches, Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, when he started working with them after the US Open. Since then, the Russian has reached the semi-finals in Beijing and Shanghai, and has a record of 12 wins - 3 losses after returning from New York.

Moutet just played in the third ATP final of his career. He aimed to become the 9th player to win his first ATP title in 2025, but failed. The French player did not lose a set on the way to the final and rose to 36th place on the ATP scoreboard, the highest since the beginning of his career.

Moutet defeated Medvedev in the last encounter in Washington and continued to cause difficulties with his soft, skillful handling. He won the second set impressively with 9 winners and only 2 unforced errors. However, the 26-year-old tennis player could not maintain his intensity. He lost in the deciding set when Medvedev played proactively, attacking deeply to break his opponent's position.
