Manchester City withdrew an invitation, Werz will join Bayern

Football

ESPN reported on May 19 that Manchester City has given up the battle for Florian Wilz.

The German midfielder has been identified as De Bruyne's successor, but City turned their attention to other goals after last week's talks with Werz's club Leverkusen and his representatives in Manchester.

A source told ESPN that Manchester City club executives believe that the financial issues involved in introducing Wiltz are not feasible (violating the principle of fair competition rather than not being able to pay a price) and that the player will transfer to Bayern Munich in the summer.

Manchester City have other options to strengthen their midfield, including Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs White.

Wilz also had rumors about transferring to Liverpool. His Leverkusen teammate Flynn Pon underwent a physical examination from Liverpool on the 19th. However, despite his numerous suitors at Anfield, a source told ESPN that Liverpool would not be stumbled on his way to Bayern.

The German international, widely regarded as one of the most talented young players in Europe, was a key member of the Xavi Alonso side, helping Leverkusen break Bayern's monopoly against the Bundesliga champions last season.

This season, Wilz scored 16 goals and 15 assists in 41 games in various competitions.
