Sturridge: Manchester United defender shoots more than Hoylento, he's a little more selfish

"Hoylen needs to be a little more selfish!"

"He is a good player, but..."

Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge mercilessly criticized Manchester United star Rasmus Hoylen on Sky Sports' program. The Danish striker joined Manchester United for £72 million, but scored only three goals in 28 games. Such data undoubtedly disappoints Red Devils fans.

Sturridge is blunt: Hoylen's shots are actually less than some of Manchester United's defenders! This is simply an incredibly inefficient performance. He believes that Hoylen needs to improve his shooting choices, and more importantly, be more selfish.

"He needs to be more decisive and selfish," Sturridge added. "He has talent, but he always seems to try to pass the ball to his teammates, not to shoot himself. Sometimes, you have to trust your abilities, seize opportunities, and shoot decisively. It's not just about technology, it's about mentality."

Sturridge is not criticizing without any basis. He pointed out that Hoylen's few shots were worrying, even worse than some defenders. This shows that this young forward may pay too much attention to team cooperation in the game and ignore the grasp of personal offensive opportunities.

"He needs to communicate better with his teammates," Sturridge continued. "He needs to let them know that in some cases he needs the ball and he needs to shoot. It's not just about personal abilities, but about teamwork. If his teammates don't know what he wants, it's hard for him to get a shot."

Sturridge's comments are not entirely criticized, and he also affirms Hoylen's talent. "He is definitely capable of becoming a top striker," Sturridge stressed, "but he needs to find a balance point, a balance between teamwork and individual offense."

The experienced England striker also explains the dilemma that Hoylen may face based on his own experience. "I've experienced similar situations before," Sturridge recalled. "Sometimes, the coach's tactical arrangements limit your performance, and you'll be asked to participate more in teamwork and sacrifice some personal offensive opportunities. Hoylen may also face such problems."

Sturridge's views are not groundless. Hoylen's low goal rate is in sharp contrast to his high transfer fee, and it has indeed attracted widespread attention from the outside world. Although the transfer fee of £72 million does not completely determine the player's performance, Hoylen's current performance is obviously far from Manchester United's expectations.

Sturridge's comment is undoubtedly a warning to Hoylen and a reminder to the Manchester United coaching staff. Hoylen has talent, but he needs to be more confident, more decisive and selfish in order to better realize his potential and prove his worth of £72 million.

He needs to seek shooting opportunities more actively in the game and communicate with his teammates more efficiently in order to truly become a key figure on Manchester United's forward line. Manchester United also needs to seriously consider how to better utilize Hoylen's talent and how to adjust tactics to make him shine in the Premier League.

"He needs to be more proactive and trust himself more in the game," Sturridge concluded, "only in this way can he become a true top scorer."
